Debt is one of the biggest causes of poverty in the UK today. Christians Against Poverty (CAP) brings hope for the future to those in poverty and debt. CAP does not pay anyone’s debts for them but negotiates with creditors and works with clients until they go debt free.

Our all-round support package supports the client from the initial phone call asking for help, right the way through to seeing them go debt free. CAP helps develop a budget plan that gives a route out of debt. We also signpost and refer into projects such as Foodbank’s, The Nest social supermarket and cafe, and Family Matters (Baby Bank).  In extreme situations CAP can provide emergency support through CAP Aid such as fresh food shops, help with prescriptions, gas and electricity top ups, phone credit, help with school uniforms.

CAP recognises that people need long term support so befriender’s who are local volunteers work alongside the Debt coaches to give friendship and community support as needed. CAP also organises a range of community events throughout the year to help provide support and friendship. These are offered to all current clients.

Funding

A great way to support CAP locally is to set up a monthly Standing Order (with gift aid if you are a UK taxpayer). This provides a regular income and allows us as an organisation to plan and ensure we can employ 3 part-time Debt Coaches. If you wish to support us in this way, please set up a standing order for the desired amount through your bank to the details below.
